Feedback on previous blog comments

Hi there,

Just wanted to say that you need to tone it down on the blogs. The way you complain about other retailers and your own customers is totally unprofessional and inappropriate. It's actually quite funny that someone used your blog to post porn. Hopefully the irony is not lost on you - you are using the blog for your store inappropriately, and so did the porn-poster! Too funny.

Like you products, don't like your blogs.

Thanks for getting back to me. I totally agree that the point of a blog is to have an open forum, and there are plenty of blogs sites out there that serve just that purpose. However, I don't think it's right to slander another retailer on your company's site. It's unprofessional to voice your personal opinions on a company website. It's unfair to the other retailers, especially because they don't have a chance to respond. There are rules (written and unwritten) against this sort of behavior - just like how a company can not make judgements about a competitor or another retailer in an advertisement. It's OK to make fact-based, measurable statements (for example: our company's cars have more leg room than the competitor), but it's not OK to complain that Rona won't give you a bag for your purchases. Make those statements on your personal blog, not on your company's. It's just really distasteful. I think it's great that you run a blog on your website, but I also think that you should keep the criticisms to yourself. Be positive about your products, but there's no need to be negative about other companies or people. Call me a square, but some of the statements you made on your blog really seem inappropriate. In defence of open blogs and the right to say as you see it

Alex. Clearly you feel passionate about these issues, as do I of course. I feel your distinction between a personal blog and a corporate blog goes too far   Keep in mind this is rw Canada and not the rw corporate , and I am the owner of the Canadian operations. So from my perspective personal and corporate are one and the same. Having said that I do avoid the standard politics and religion and keep it to a broad definition of retail general interest. With this in mind my Rona comment was both valid and relevant and posted in my capacity as a general consumer.  I was contrasting their policy with our philosophy on the subject
I don't subscribe to "unwritten" rules nor even to written rules that are in my opinion indefensible. That's part of the privilege of being an entrepreneur!
I do love lively debate and your points are not dismissed. I will have them in mind next posting
Sorry I can't amplify further, this hunt and peck keyboard isn't conducive to long emails. Appreciate the feedback however

Alex. Whole point of any blog is that it is an open forum. Why don't you like some of the comments ? They are factual. Opinionated yes, but at least provocative and point out differences. I would be interested in knowing where you are coming from on this?
